ROYO — Royo, who was born in Valencia, demonstrated his talent early. By the time he was nine years old his father had hired a tutor to instruct him in drawing, painting and sculpting. At the age 25 Royo had achieved such a level of classical training that he was asked to exhibit his works in Spain's most prestigious galleries and to paint the royal portraits of King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia.
Today, almost twenty years later, Royo who is compared to Renoir, says of himself that he "paints with light — capturing the effect of light and shadow on color".
