THOMAS PRADZYNSKI — In 1977, at the age of 26, Thomas Pradzynski left his native Poland for Paris with the goal of becoming a renowned artist. His interest in the beauty of French city and a love of art became the important ingredients to has own paintings. His ideal was to "romanticize the empty streets and the traces of the past and to preserve places that are slowly disappearing." The path before him was paved with warmly lit Parisian streets, dark windows and open doorways. The art he was about to create would not only echo his surroundings, but also communicate his passion for their preservation.
Nostalgia plays into much of Pradzynski's work. He searches the deserted streets for emotion, discovers the mood in store window reflections and captures feeling in the exterior of a dignified old building. Whether it is an empty street, an archway leading to unknown destinations, or an unattended table in a street cafe, his images reveal the impulse in all of us to look to the past and to hold tightly to traces of history; the magic of Pradzynski's paintings and limited edition serigraphs also lies in the occasional doorway, lending the imaginary mystery and suggesting a future, inevitable yet unknown.
